About Brush

The charm of brush lettering is movement. Each stroke starts firm, thins out toward the end and sometimes leaves a dry streak where the bristles run out of paint. Brush keeps that feeling: the letters have natural variations, an even slant and a confident rhythm. Spaced capitals look sporty and bold, lowercase letters look casual and quick, and numbers match the same hand.

Where brush lettering works

  • Posters, banners and event titles that need energy.
  • T-shirts, hoodies and caps with sporty, street-style slogans.
  • Logos for gyms, coffee shops, barbers, food trucks and creative studios.
  • Quote graphics, video titles, YouTube thumbnails and social media covers.
  • Product packaging, labels, tags and shop signs.
  • Hand-lettered looks for mugs, tumblers and tote bags.

Using the font well

The font has a lot of character, so keep the layout simple. One or two lines of text with a clean background is often enough. For maximum energy, set the text slightly larger than comfortable and trim the margins; for a calmer feel, use smaller text with plenty of space. Pair it with a plain sans-serif for small supporting words. If you put the brush text over a photograph, choose a quiet area of the image or add a soft dark overlay so the strokes stay clear.

Color choices matter too. Black or white brush lettering looks great on almost anything. For a warm, handmade look, try deep red, ochre or navy on cream paper. For a street style, try white on black or bright neon on dark.

Working with machines

Brush shapes have organic edges, which cut nicely in vinyl because they are not overly fine. Increase the size a bit for vinyl and heat-transfer vinyl to keep the thinnest strokes strong. For printing, the font works at any size. For engraving, try a medium size first; the rough edges look especially natural on wood and leather.
