About Chunkora
Chunkora is built from massive shapes. The strokes are so thick that the counters, the little holes inside letters such as A, B, O, P and R, shrink to narrow slots or tiny rounded openings. The outer edges are smooth and softly rounded, so the letters feel friendly instead of harsh. Capitals and lowercase letters share the same heavy weight, the lowercase letters are compact and round, and the numbers are just as chunky, so a date or a score keeps the same strong voice.
This kind of lettering has a long history in poster design, comic titles and packaging, where designers need maximum impact in minimum space. Chunkora gives you that effect without any drawing: type the word, choose a color and place it in your layout.
Free for personal use
You can download and use this font for personal, non-commercial projects. That means things such as school posters, birthday signs, gifts for friends and family, scrapbook pages, party banners, room decor, hobby crafts and social media posts that are not used to sell anything. The download includes the TTF and OTF files and a license file with the exact terms. If you want to use it on products you sell, in a logo or for a client, a commercial license is available from the Etsy shop.
Design tips for a very heavy font
A font this heavy needs space. Keep the text short, usually one to three words, and surround it with plenty of empty room. Use high contrast: dark letters on a light background, or white letters on a deep color. Because the holes are tiny, avoid putting the text at very small sizes; at small sizes the slots can close up and make letters harder to recognize. Use it at a medium or large size and use a lighter font for any small supporting line.
Adjust the spacing if you need to. The default spacing is tuned for large headings. If two letters seem too close in a particular word, add a small amount of space between them in your program. For stacked lines, reduce the line spacing a little so the lines form a solid block, which is a classic poster look.
Color and effects
The simplest approach is the best. Solid colors look bold and clean. Try bright yellow on black, white on tomato red, deep blue on pale yellow, or pastel pink on mint. If you want an extra effect, add a simple offset shadow in a darker color, or a thin outline. Avoid soft glows and gradients that blur the clean edges; the font's charm is in its solid, graphic look.
